What jobs are BIG in my area?

You may be in school thinking of a career that keeps you close to home. Or, you may be thinking the exact opposite. You might want the adventure and excitement that a job in a different area of Australia will bring.

It’s amazing how many people end up doing courses and then find out that there is a lack of opportunities in their area.

Now you can find out what is BIG for employment in your area using My Futures Labour Market information.

You can view this here:

By selecting your state or territory and drilling down further as to where you live, you can see the probability if you will get work where you are living with the course that you are about to embark on.

For example, looking up Newcastle in the hunter region we see that the description tends to lean towards certain industry and jobs.

I certainly think that this is a great tool and the labour market information should at least be considered by people before they embark on a course. I do wish I found this resource when I was younger.

If your career choice isn’t included, it doesn’t mean that you will have absolute no chance of getting a job there. Just statistically, it may be harder than someone from an electrical background where these jobs are widely distributed in this region.

Some people like commuting. Some despise it.

Some thought they would like to commute but ended up hating it.

Some people don’t care if they have to go to the other end of the planet to find their dream job.

However, whatever the case the above tool is useful for finding out what occupations have increased demand in specific areas.
