Im always looking for new writers to add to this section. So if you think you have what it takes, please contact me.

Be Patient with your job search

Some of us can get impatient with how slow our applications may be processing, or the fact that employers are not getting back to us quick enough. It can be extremely frustrating to get an email or a call a month after you applied for the job to say that they apologise for the late reply but on this occasion you have been unsuccessful for the position. Even after you have spent nearly 2 hours with the application itself, responding to job criteria and completing online applications.

Get Motivated

One of the hardest things to do when you are unemployed is to be motivated when you have had so many knock backs for work. I mean, you can start to feel like you have nothing to offer after a while.

Lack of motivation is a barrier in itself in employment and finding your dream job. You start to not do anything because you feel it’s no use and you can get disillusioned.

Having Commitment

Having commitment is one aspect that people find hard to deal with when working. There are those out there that can’t hold a job for long for whatever reason they tell you but when you dig deeper, often there is a deep rooted problem with commitment.

There are two scenarios where job commitment can be a problem:

Scenario 1. After the application has been sent but before you have been offered the job.

Learning through OTEN

One of the less orthodox methods of learning is by correspondence. The TAFE organisation OTEN is a great resource for learning courses by correspondence and one that I highly recommend.

Learning your course by correspondence can bring some great advantages.

Money makes the world go around

It’s certainly interesting to see the latest median wage results on news.com.au. Males in the workforce earn an average of $60,954 and the average female wage is $50,996.

What is actually happening is that skilled sectors are being in more demand and therefore driving up the average wage of the overall workforce.

Persistence is the key

What separates the people who get a job quickly from those that keep finding themselves out of work? Its not just luck, it’s a thing called persistence.

Persistence is the quality that makes people think you are serious about getting a job there. It makes them know that you will do whatever it takes to get there.

Recording our job applications

I have found one of the hardest aspects when job hunting is keeping track of all the job applications that you go for. This is particularly difficult when you go for internet applications such as seek or career one.

The 5 W’s and the ‘H’

I have always had an interest in Journalism and writing. I don’t think I could write these articles without it.

Why am I saying this? There is something that I have learnt from my interest in journalism that is very relevant to career planning. That is the 5 W’s and the ‘H’.

The power of video

Video is becoming a very powerful tool in online marketing and thus, in marketing yourself.

Just in my job hunting, I have realised that to make myself more marketable I require a video resume to introduce myself to others and establish a connection especially if im looking outside of the area I reside.

Why video?

• It allows your prospective employer know who they are dealing with

• It allows you to build trust and acceptance with your employer

Time Management in your work

This week I have bought the book ‘The four hour working week’ by Tim Ferriss.

I can accredit this book for really getting my act into gear in terms of time management now and the projects that im doing. If I thought I was doing OK with some aspects of my life, these concepts really places things into perspective!
